![]() Step 6: After that type "bash install.sh adblock_spotify" Then type in "cd" then drag in the folder that we unzipped and created earlier. Step 3: Type "adblock_spotify" in the Name section, Select Identity-Type as "Self Signed Root" & Certificate Type as "Code Signing" Be sure to double click to unzip it so you can see the folder with 3 files in it. Step 1: Download the repository I just linked earlier. Just requires a repatch when Spotify is updated.įirst, go to and download the Spotify Desktop Client. The script method is better as it doesn't require AdGuard to be installed or SIP to be disabled or anything it just works way better. All credit goes to original authors I just wanted to make a noob friendly guide. UPDATE: Here is the link for the GitHub script. This updated one should prevent it from crashing whenever you launch it. ![]() For some reason I don't see the GitHub for where it came from anymore so I'll just add this here. All credit goes to their respective authors. It is linked here and just follow the instructions listed. New script has been developed by the authors for SpotX but for mac now. Script method isn't working for the moment just use the adguard method until somebody comes out with a fix. This one is gonna be long as nobody had made a guide for Mac yet. But for simplicity I'll just copy paste what I put there and put it here. ![]() I made a guide detailing this and it's linked below. Honestly, the AdGuard method used to be good but then became a bigger pain in the ass later after some MacOS updates and sometimes connectivity breaks for no reason so I would recommend against that one and use the script method. You can run a script or you can install a pirated version of AdGuard for Desktop then add Spotify to the filtered app list and be good. Just follow the instructions linked below and you should be good to go. You can't go wrong with either just use whichever you prefer. You can also use SpotX which is supposed to be based off of BlockTheSpot but has additional features such as update disabling. But I've only had experience with BlockTheSpot and I've been using it for a while with auto update disabled and I've been pleased with it. Supposedly the DLL Injection method is better as it's supposed to be more resistant against auto updates and supposedly more stable. One is BlocktheSpot and there is the DLL injection method. With that out of the way, let's get started.īefore we get started would just like to say I didn't invent any of this and all credit goes to their respective authors I'm just trying to make a guide for the rest of us. Spotify also announced the acquisition of two podcast startups this week, Gimlet Media and Anchor, as it focuses on gathering into its service all of the audio content its users might listen to.Since this information is scattered all over the place, I figured I would do you guys a favor and try to consolidate all the methods and guides and methods all into one place. Ad-supported revenue makes up a much smaller slice, but as a public company, Spotify is under more scrutiny to prevent ad blocking, piracy or anything else that might cut into its earnings or subscriber growth. Revenue from paid subscriptions now account for nearly all of Spotify’s turnover, or 88 percent. The company, which went public in May 2018, fell below analysts’ expectations for revenue, but is continuing to grow quickly despite intense competition from other streaming services, with subscribers increasing 36 percent to 96 million. Around that time, Spotify also began cracking down on unauthorized Android apps that let people access Spotify without ads.ĭuring its fourth-quarter earnings report yesterday, Spotify reported positive operating profit, net income and free cash flow for the first time since it was founded in 2006. The company disclosed in March 2018 while preparing for its initial public offering that it discovered two million users, or about 1.3 percent of its total user base at the time, had been using ad blockers on the free version of Spotify, enough to force it to restate usage metrics. The new guidelines specify that “circumventing or blocking advertisements in the Spotify Service, or creating and distributing tools designed to block advertisements in the Spotify Service” may now result in “immediate termination or suspension of your Spotify account.”Īd blockers have long been a headache for Spotify. In an email to users today, the streaming music and podcast platform said its new user guidelines “mak it clear that all types of ad blockers, bots and fraudulent streaming activities are not permitted.” Accounts that use ad blockers in Spotify face immediate suspension or termination under the new terms of service, which go into effect on March 1. Spotify will take a harder stance on ad blockers in its updated terms of service.
